About me
Here you write a bit about yourself and your typical day to day life. Below is an example of the type of information you might include:
I live with my parents, Jack and Josie, and my two brothers, Grahame and David. Grahame is 17 and David is 12. We live in Heidelberg, Victoria, in a two-storey house with a medium sized backyard, where my dog Spot spends most of his time.
I finished high school two years ago and since then have been working part-time at my local supermarket. I would really like to go to TAFE or university and meet some new people.
In the morning, my mum has to help me shower and get ready for the day. She prepares most of my meals, though I am able to help a little with this.
This is an example above. Think about what you would like to write to describe you and your life.
This section of your plan will have the goals you discussed in your Planning meeting that you want to work towards.
Short-term goal
During this plan I would like to be more independent with some of my daily living activities and access the community to further my education.
How I will achieve this goal | How I will be supported |
---|---|
• Accessing the community • Supports with living skills | • Funded supports to help access the community • Funded supports to help with daily living activities |
Medium or long-term goal
I would like to work towards driving independently and being able to travel by myself.
How I will achieve this goal | How I will be supported |
---|---|
• Relevant car modifications • Driving lessons | • Funded supports to help me learn to drive • Assessment and access to equipment/modifications |
The NDIS provides ongoing funding for all ‘reasonable and necessary’ disability equipment, care and support services.
These include supports and services you need to:
In practice this means providing support in areas including:
Support Categories
The support categories that have been allocated to you can be found in your NDIS plan. These might include transport, support coordination or assistive technology.
These supports sit under three main areas:
These support areas are also called your support Budgets.

Now let's have a look at your latest NDIS Plan. Using the table below, enter the support categories you have in your Plan in column 3. We will explain what they are as we go through the different categories.
Don’t worry, not everyone has every support in every category!
These supports help you with everyday activities and can be paid through your core budget, which is flexible across all of the funding categories. This means if funds are low in one part of your core supports you can use funds from another part to pay for those supports.
Please see some examples of core supports in the table below.
Don’t worry, not everyone has every support in every category!
In Your Plan | In The Myplace Portal | Description |
---|---|---|
Assistance with daily life | Daily activities | For example, assistance with showering, dressing, household cleaning and/or yard maintenance. |
Consumables | Consumables | Everyday items you may need. For example, continence products or low-cost assistive technology such as modified cutlery and hand rails to improve your independence and/or mobility. You may also use these funds to do minor repairs to aids and equipment (assistive technology), for example wheelchair tyre puncture repair. |
Assistance with social and community participation | Social, community and civic participation | This could include a support worker to help you participate in social and community activities. |
Transport | Transport | This is support that helps you travel to work or other places that will help you achieve the goals in your plan. It can be used when you are unable to travel by yourself or use public transport. How you can spend your transport funding, including by arrangement with your provider, and how it is paid to you (whether upfront or in regular payments) will be different for each person. Your ECEI coordinator LAC, NDIA planner or Support Coordinator will explain how you can use this budget. |
Capacity building supports are intended to build your independence and reduce the need for the same level of support in the future. These are things like therapy, training, assessments, and items that build your skills and abilities. Check out the table below for some examples.
Don’t worry, not everyone has every support in every category!

This is also referred to as AT and provides the support a person with a disability might use to go about daily life at home, in the community and workplace.
The NDIS has four levels of Assistive technology, from Level 1 - simple AT that can be sourced from an everyday supplier, through to Level 4 - complex AT which is custom made and requires an AT assessment by an occupational therapist.
In the image below you will see some examples of AT.
These are changes to the structure, layout or fittings of a participant’s home so they can safely access it and move around comfortably. This could include things like indoor ramps, kitchens that are designed for easier use and bathrooms that are more accessible.
Congratulations you have finished section 1 of the Manage your Supports topic! We will continue to learn more about using and managing your NDIS Plan as we move through the rest of the sections.
